John Serock got the catering bug at an early age. Washing dishes for his grandmother (a cook and banquet manager) at the age of 12, he quickly developed a love/passion for the catering/event industry. After spending his teenage summers cooking in an Italian restaurant At the Jersey shore, that love quickly turned into a passion. After graduation John went on to study at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI, where he worked as a teaching assistant in the banquet department and graduated with honors in the Culinary and foodservice Management programs.
In late 2000 a friend, knowing that John had catered in the past, asked John if he could cater a small family party, after finishing that party John quit his job as a restaurant manager and John Serock Catering was born.

After 5 years in business, it seemed the one thing he was hearing over and over again from cutomers was that it was a shame they had to have a special event to have John’s Cooking, that’s when the idea to open a take out shop was formed. What’s Cooking by John Serock Catering was opened in Malvern, PA in December 2006 to expand not only the corporate catering division, but to offer home-style cooked meals to busy working people. The average person who has never used a caterer before, can be somewhat reprehensible, what if the food isn’t good, how will they know how much to make?
At What’s Cooking, customers can not only come in and try our food “Blind”, we encourage it. The food we serve in our display cases is made everyday EXACTLY the same way it is for an event, we don’t put special food out to try and impress potential clients, we put out Great Tasting Food in everything we do.
The greatest thing about catering is; We help people celebrate life. With the exception of an occasional funeral luncheon, all of our social events are based on a celebration, whether it be a baptism, confirmation, graduation or wedding, we get to play a very integral part in the celebration of these events and we treat our guests as if they were our own family (the side we like!) realizing that they don’t happen everyday, and we take every event as if our reputation depended on it…Because it Does! |
