John Serock learned at an early age that he was destined to have a career in the catering business. At only 12 years old, John had the opportunity to work with his grandmother, a cook and banquet manager. Although his only task at that age was to wash dishes, he knew then catering was his passion. His love for the industry was further strengthened at the Jersey shore where John spent his teenage summers cooking in an Italian restaurant.
After graduating from high school, John decided to fine-tune his cooking skills at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. At Johnson & Wales, John served as a teaching assistant in the banquet department and went on to graduate with honors from the University's Culinary and Foodservice Management programs.
In late 2000, a friend asked John to cater a small family party. After catering the party, John quit his job as a restaurant manager and John Serock Catering was born.
The Early Years …
After five years in business and rave reviews from his customers, something was missing. Customers consistently asked if John's cooking could be offered as takeout meals. That's when John decided to fill in the missing piece of the puzzle and open a takeout store.
In December 2006, What's Cooking was opened in Malvern, Pa., allowing John to expand his offerings in the corporate catering division and to offer party tray pick up for clients planning an event where the full services of John Serock Catering are not needed.
